Uconnect Gives L.A.P.D. Big-Screen Treatment

Policescreen1_mid
When the Los Angeles Police Department pondered how to unclutter their cruisers, Chrysler Group LLC suggested they stay focused on the big picture. Literally.

Advancements in law enforcement have put highly effective new tools in the hands of police. Laptop computers with data-protection protocols have replaced two-way radios for the transmission of sensitive information, such as crime-scene details and suspect identities.

But this new technology also has exacted a price. Police vehicles now are jam-packed with additional displays and keyboards and mounting brackets that not only compromise comfort, they pose a risk to officer safety in the event of a collision.

Enter engineers from Chrysler Group’s Uconnect brand of innovative in-vehicle connectivity solutions.

“We saw a clear opportunity to adapt our easy-to-use Uconnect interface for the benefit of police officers and, by extension, society at large,” says Marios Zenios, Vice President-Uconnect Systems and Services.

Uconnect’s trend-setting 8.4-in. display screen that delivers easy access to functions such as in-vehicle audio and navigation, could not accommodate all the information required by law-enforcement applications. So, Chrysler Group teamed with Continental Engineering Services to develop a 12.1-inch screen capable of displaying data, graphics and video specific to police use.

Data input is handled more ergonomically via plug-in keyboard that is securely stowed when the vehicle is in motion or unoccupied.

And with the touch of a button, the high-resolution screen transitions to reveal controls for all-important vehicle systems, such as climate control.

A concept version of the ground-breaking system will be unveiled in a Dodge Charger Pursuit at the 119th Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference in San Diego, which runs from Sept. 29. to Oct.3.

Following the conference, Chrysler Group will put three fully-functioning systems on the road in a trio of Charger Pursuits. Chrysler Group engineers will accumulate test miles on one vehicle, while the other two will be deployed with the L.A.P.D.

The project reflects Chrysler Group’s solid commitment to its fleet customers. “We strive not only anticipate customer needs, but to deliver feasible solutions in a timely manner,” says Peter Grady, Vice President-Network Development and Fleet.

Lt. Dan Gonzalez, who heads the L.A.P.D.’s tactical technology section, worked with Uconnect to develop the new display.

“The over-arching reason we’re involved in this is to provide a higher level of safety for the officer,” he says.

Other auto makers have attempted to consolidate displays in a vehicle’s center stack. Results were mixed.

“From this project, we have created a less-confining vehicle cabin,” Gonzalez adds. “Increased safety and a better cabin experience is a ‘win-win.’”

Uconnect’s groundbreaking display screen and interface have been widely acclaimed by the automotive media. It has been cited twice for excellence by judges of Ward’s 10 Best Interiors.

Chrysler Town & Country: The Envy of Tailgate Parties Everywhere

Tc2013

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

It used to be that the minivan mostly symbolized trips to the grocery store and the kids’ soccer practice. These days, and thanks to an ever-increasing availability of cool new features, the Chrysler Town & Country in particular is so much more than that. With a little imagination it can be, well, just about anything you want, even the envy of your alumni football tailgate parties.

Hear us out now. The same features that make Town & Country an excellent choice for families will also make any tailgating experience more enjoyable. With seating for seven, for example, you can pick up six of your best friends and still have enough cargo room to pack a smorgasbord of essential tailgate party foods.

Also, with the available Uconnect Web, your minivan can be transformed into an Internet “hot spot,” granting Wi-Fi access to any compatible device. That means you can check all the latest scores or set the lineup for your fantasy football team anywhere within range, be it from a lawn chair stationed just outside the rear hatch, or from the luxurious second-row captain’s seating that comes standard with the Touring L and Limited models.

Now, none of this tailgating business is meant to detract from Town & Country’s overall ability to impress as a practical family vehicle—thanks to innovations like the industry-exclusive Stow ‘n Go® Seating and the 42-feature SafetyTec Package, our minivan remains an excellent choice for families. Just consider this a friendly reminder for all you football fans: A new season is upon us, and it’s a great time to keep in mind the other potential uses of the Chrysler Town & Country.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Altitude Edition, Automobile Magazine, Sept. 14

2012_jeep_wrangler_f34_ns_424121_717
As a former 1988 Jeep Wrangler owner, it's amazing to me how far this model has come, an Automobile magazine review said. For 2012, Jeep offers soft-touch plastics, an engine that delivers both (relatively) impressive acceleration and fuel economy, and an interior I'd be a little afraid to get wet, the article said. Wranglers now offer four doors and a quiet enough interior to be considered as a daily driver for a small family, the publication said.

Climb up and into the Wrangler Unlimited Altitude, and it's clear that this is not the barebones Jeep Wrangler of old, the reviewer wrote. It has all the modern conveniencesleather seats, a tilt steering wheel, an optional navigation system, and USB and Bluetooth connectivityand yet it still has the off-road capability of its predecessors, Automobile said. Unlike the Wranglers of yore, in which you were forced to compromise comfort and usability for the fun of off-roading prowess and open-air motoring, this new Wrangler is a vehicle you could easily live with every day, the story said

2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition: A Preview

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]The new 2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition was inspired by the foundries, grittiness, and spirit that made the Motor City flourish.

No detail went unnoticed in the effort to deliver the signature John Varvatos style, from the unique Phantom Black tri-coat exterior paint to a Titanium grille surround with Black Chrome grille blades and an aggressively styled front fascia. This is craftsmanship that could only be “Imported from Detroit.”

[[posterous-content:pid___1]]

The interior of the 2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition is as distinct as it is striking.  Pewter Metallic leather seats with Varvatos’ logos proudly embossed are complemented by Varvatos pattern stitching (used on his signature fitted-jacket collection) in unique Diesel Gray and Black.

Interior gauges are translated designs from John Varvatos’ latest watch design and feature a pearlescent White face and Charcoal Black metallic bezels.

Chrysler and fashion designer John Varvatos team up for special edition 300 sedans

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

2013-chrysler-300c-john-var
Chrysler and John Varvatos, two award-winning entities with strong ties to the city of Detroit, have teamed up to create a pair of bespoke luxury sedans that showcase what can happen when the automotive world meets the fashion industry. The 2013 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition and Luxury Edition will both bring a new level of exclusivity to this stylish, full-size sedan.

Varvatos' self-named menswear fashion brand, John Varvatos, has a raw industrial look, but the designer is also heavily infused with the rock 'n' roll scene from his early interest in fashion to his involvement with the VH1 Save the Music Foundation where he is a board member. This mix of industry and rock 'n' roll can easily be seen in the new 300C models.

Each car will get a slightly different look and feel with the 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition coming in an exclusive Phantom Black tri-coat paint job as the basis of the car's dark and sinister appearance. All of the 300's regular bright chrome trim has been replaced by dark titanium accents (on the grille surround, daylight opening trim and the dual exhaust outlets) or black chrome on the front grille. Dark 20-inch, multi-spoke wheels and smoked LED taillight lenses finish off the eye-catching styling, and even Chrysler's signature wing badge has been darkened to match the rest of the exterior. The 300C Luxury Edition gets slightly different look with a platinum chrome mesh grille and polished wheels.

The 300C's fashion makeover gets even more intense inside. Looking like it came right off a John Varvatos runway, the Limited Edition gets features like the pewter metallic leather seats with exclusive Diesel Gray and black stitching to match one of Varvatos' leather jackets. Also, the instrument panel clock and gauge cluster has been redesigned to match the brand's watch design including what should be a stunning pearlescent white face with black bezels. The Luxury Edition's cabin steps things up even more with two color options for the Nappa leather seats and hand-sanded, matte-finished Natural Pore Mocha real wood accents. Both cars come with Chrylser's 8.4-inch UConnect system with a distinct "John Varvatos" screen display.

Chrysler has yet to announce the pricing or availability for either of these models, but it did say that the Limited Edition would in fact be produced in limited numbers.

Despite carrying the 300C name, the Limited Edition and Luxury Edition versions of this car will be available with both V6 and V8 engines as well as optional all-wheel drive. Up until this car, the 300C nameplate was used solely to distinguish cars equipped with the Hemi V8.
